Jan van `t Hoff

Jan van `t Hoff was born in 1959 on one of the most beautiful islands of Zeeland, Schouwen-Duiveland.

At this place he developed his love for the nature in it's manifoldness and for the sea with the beach and the shells.

As a little boy he helped his family with the field work and in the garden.

He always used to be in contact with fruits, vegetables, wild  plants – from there his pronounced familiarity with the nature.

At the same time, he drew a lot – his interest was hold for the three-dimensional representation and the art started to fascinate him ; hence he decided to serve an apprenticeship in drawing and to follow the teaching career.

After that he studied from 1978 to 1984 at the academy for visual arts in Kampen.

In 1986: marriage with Mrs. Loes ( 2 children: Joost + Ilse)

While he worked freelance he created illustrations, drawings (vernis mou technique), mosaics and above all portraits in oil paint.

Then, in 2004 „he came back to the nature“ and started with his unusual still lifes.

These free works are painted in great detail – his particularity is to magnify the objects and to use the concept of clair-obscur (light+dark) – as well as the intense contrasts.

Jan van `t Hoff stands within the tradition of the classic Dutch painting and is -with his painting technique- a modern representative of it.

In Europe, America + Australia his works are acquired by aficionados and passionate collectors.
